The Feminist Alliance in Solidarity for Sex Workers' Rights (FAS) is a Quebec coalition of individuals and feminist groups working together to support and defend the rights of people working in all sectors of the sex industry.
The FAS is in favour of the decriminalization of sex work and is guided by the fundamental principle that sex workers should have the same advantages and protections of their rights and liberties, like all other members of society.
The FAS believes that to be a democratic society, truly engaged in the struggle for equality, liberty and human dignity, we need to recognize the rights of sex workers, which means:
• The right to live and work in security and in conditions free of shame, violence and exploitation;
• The right to have their dignity, autonomy and liberty respected including the right to engage in paid consensual sexual activities with other adults without being criminalized; and
• The right to be treated as an equal member of society and benefit from the same protections and advantages offered by the law and to not be subject to stigmatization, discrimination and social alienation.
The FAS recognizes that the criminalization of sex workers intersects with prejudices and discrimination based on gender, race, poverty, sexual orientation, disability and age. In particular, preconceived ideas about men and women, heterosexuality and homosexuality, constrain and delay the social integration of sex workers in Quebec.
The FAS is conscious that decriminalization of sex work alone will not put an end to the injustices that sex workers face. However, it is a necessary first step towards the recognition of sex workers as citizens who deserve respect and dignity.
The FAS includes and aims to bring together sex workers and their allies, wheter individual or groups.
The FAS invites all individuals and groups who adhere to this position to join. Send an email to alliancefeministesolidaire@gmail.com and write:
